REPORT: Aaron Donald Was So Close To Retiring, He Sent Letter Of Retirement To Rams

Aaron Donald was really close to retiring. So close that the he sent a letter to the Los Angeles Rams in May informing the team that he is intending to retire, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The letter was intended to be passed to the National Football League and make Donald’s decision officially, but the Rams never sent it. Instead, they and Donald’s agent, Todd France, reignited contract negotiation talks and eventually settled on a $40 million raise for Donald on the three years remaining on his contract, keeping him with the team and on the field.

The Rams open the season on Thursday against the Buffalo Bills.
