Trey Lance was handed the keys to the franchise this season by the 49ers, but his tenure in San Francisco will have to wait a year.
During a designed run late in the first quarter of Lance’s home debut as a starter, a tackle and subsequent roll over left the former 3rd overall pick with his foot on sideways. Crazy enough, Lance didn’t even notice the injury until he tried to put weight on it with a teammate helping him up.
Lance’s injury was met with visceral reactions from teammates and opponents.
He was shortly after carted off in an air cast.

Luckily, the 49ers somehow retained former starter Jimmy Garoppolo, perhaps now the best backup in the league who will likely be able to seamlessly take over in Lance’s place.
