REPORT: Steelers Have ‘Interest’ In Signing Russell Wilson, Will Meet With Him Before Free Agency

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in signing Russell Wilson and will meet with him before free agents are officially cleared to sign next Wednesday.

Dulac adds that there is “mutual interest” between the Steelers and Wilson to get a deal done.

Pittsburgh is the market for a veteran quarterback following another subpar season from Kenny Pickett. The 2022 first-road pick threw for just 2,090 passing yards and six touchdowns in 12 games.

The Steelers finished 25th in total offense in 28th in scoring after firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada in November. The best stretch for the Steelers offense came when Mason Rudolph was start. Rudolph led the Steelers to the playoffs following three straight victories.

Rudolph is set to be a free agent and the Steelers already cut Mitchell Trubisky.

Meanwhile, Wilson’s time in Denver was a disaster after the team traded for him in 2021. He was benched during the final two weeks of the 2023 season, signaling his time in Denver was over. The team released Wilson earlier this week and has given him the opportunity to seek another team.
