Eagles’ Fletcher Cox Announces Retirement From NFL After 12 Seasons

Another Eagles legend is hanging up his cleats.

Fletcher Cox, a six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle and Super Bowl LII champion, announced his retirement on social media Sunday after 12 seasons in the NFL, all of which spent in Philadelphia.

“After much reflection, I have made the decision to retire from the game of football,” Cox said in a statement. “I gave everything I had to this team and to this city. I don’t know what’s next for me, but I do know that I’m forever grateful for my time here in Philadelphia and with the Eagles organization. Go Birds!”

Cox’s announcement comes a week after Eagles’ longtime center Jason Kelce officially retired.

The 33-year-old Cox was selected by the Eagles with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and played a key role in helping Philadelphia capture its first Lombardi Trophy in 2017. Cox finishes fifth on the Eagles’ all-time sack list (70.0) and ranks fourth in the NFL in sacks among defensive tackles since entering the league in 2012.
