Damar Hamlin will get his first opportunity to start for the Bills in over two years this Sunday when Buffalo opens the 2024 season against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Taylor Rapp was named the other starting safety, per Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.
Hamlin was competing for the starting safety spot with sixth-year safety Mike Edwards and rookie Cole Bishop. Both guys were dealing with injuries this offseason.
Damar Hamlin is heading into his fourth year in the NFL after finishing as the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year runner-up. Last season, he played in just five regular-season games in his return from suffering on-field cardiac arrest in 2022.
