Wild Hailstorm Breaks Out During Akron-Western Michigan Game

Akrone went up against Western Michigan on Saturday. During the second quarter, Akron was up 17-0 when a wild hailstorm broke out and had fans running for cover.

Cameras caught large chunks of ice that fell from the sky and onto the field.

ESPN play-by-play commentator Shawn Kenney couldn’t believe the weather in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

“It’s hail that’s coming down at the turf at Waldo,” Kenney said. “Holy smokes! We were just talking about the weather pattern and how bizarre it has been. This is a hail storm right now in Kalamazoo. This is incredible.”

While the storm eventually turned to rain, the hail continued to fall on and off throughout the second quarter.

Apparently the hail storm was good luck for Western Michigan Broncos, who went on to score 14 unanswered points and were able to win the game, 34-24.
