The Terrible Towels are coming to Dublin, Ireland.
The National Football League announced Friday that it will play a game in Dublin, Ireland during the 2025 season. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be the host of the game and their opponent will announced at a later date.
“The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there, but also to play in front of the growing number of Steelers fans in Ireland. We are thrilled to be part of this historic event to represent Pittsburgh in a game that brings the NFL to the great sports fans in Ireland.”
Rooney has family from Newry, County Down, and his father, Daniel M. Rooney, was the United States Ambassador to Ireland from 2009-12.
This comes after the NFL announced on Wednesday that there will be a game in Australia during the 2026 season. The Los Angeles Rams will be the designated home team in that contest, which will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
