Earlier this month the NFL released their 2025-26 schedule and one of the biggest games of the season will be played on Thanksgiving when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Jerry’s World to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
The lead broadcaster calling the game for CBS – Jim Nantz – believes that game will be historic.
Appearing this week on Rich Eisen’s show, lead CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz expressed a belief that the Thanksgiving game between the Chiefs and Cowboys will set a record for the most watched game in NFL history.
“K.C. and Dallas, to put those two gigantic brands together on the most-watched day of the regular season in the NFL, it’s gonna set records,” Nantz said. “That’s not what I’m out for it to do. I just hope it’s a great football game. It will be a wonderful matchup to call on Thanksgiving. K.C. at Dallas, it’s the game we wanted.”
It’s not hard to imagine if you think about it. The Dallas Cowboys are always a hot-ticket. The Chiefs are in the midst of a dynasty run with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Put them together and factor in Thanksgiving Day, you can expect the game to be a ratings bonanza.
Three years ago, 42.1 million watched the Cowboys beat the Giants, 28-20. That’s the current record. And seven of the top nine games happened on Thanksgiving.
