BREAKING: Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay Has Passed Away At Age 65

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has passed away at the age of 65, the team announced. Irsay died “peacefully in his sleep” on Wednesday night, according to the statement from the team.

The team released a full statement on social media on Wednesday evening.

“We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon. Jim’s dedication and passion for the Indianapolis Colts in addition his generosity, commitment to the community and, most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed. Our deepest sympathies go to his daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, Kalen Jackson, and his entire family as we grieve with them.

Irsay’s father, Robert Irsay, purchased the Baltimore Colts when Jim was just 12 years old and later moved the team to Indianapolis. Jim joined the Colts organization in 1982 and spent year’s as the team’s VP/GM from 1984 to 1996.

Robert passed away in 1997, but Jim had assumed day-to-day management of the Colts a few years earlier. He became owner of the franchise at the age of 37.
