REPORT: Buccaneers All-Pro LT Tristan Wirfs To Miss Start Of Season Due To Knee Injury

This is a big blow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs star left tackle Tristan Wirfs is expected to miss the start of the regular season because of a knee injury, Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times reports. The report adds that Wirfs will likely start the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP), and will likely miss at least the first four games of the regular season.

Wirfs underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday after originally injuring his right knee last season.

Wirfs, a two-time All-Pro, has been in a brace throughout the Buccaneers offseason programs. After experiencing multiple setbacks, the only option remaining was to have surgery rather than playing through the injury.

Despite the injury, Wirfs started 16 games last season and was selected to his fourth straight Pro Bowl.

Wirfs, 26, was Tampa Bay’s first-round selection in the 2020 draft and has appeared in 79 games — all starts — during his five-year career.
