Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel Bloodied After Jumping Into Scrum During Joint Practice With Commanders

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was bloodied after he jumped into a pile of players during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Washington Commanders.

Vrabel held a bag of ice on his right cheek. The scrum that Vrabel entered came after rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson laid out a Washington Commanders defender on a block.

Vrabel’s bloody check caught the attention of Patriots second year quarterback Drake Maye, who chimed in on the matter.

“That’s what we’re trying to build, and it starts with the head coach — intensity, bringing it every day, taking no crap when we’re out there on the field,” Maye said. “The mentality, I like it. That’s what you want.”

The Patriots host the Commanders in both teams’ preseason opener Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
