If the Seattle Seahawks won this game, this play would be talked about a lot more than it is.
Down 23-20, Seattle received the ball with less than two minutes remaining. On the drive’s opening play, Geno Smith put his team in position for a game-tying field goal with a 32-yard run. The quarterback received some help from his second-year wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba.
As Smith scrambled outside the pocket, Smith-Njigba continued to run downfield. He waved his hand in the air andĀ duped two Giants defendersĀ into thinking the ball was heading their way.
Here’s the play:
The trick cleared the right side of the field for Smith, who finished Sunday’s game with a career-high 72 rushing yards.
Unfortunately for the Seahawks, the move didn’t pay dividends. Isaiah Simmons blocked a Jason Myers field-goal attempt, which Bryce Ford-Wheaton returned for a 60-yard touchdown.
The Giants secured a 29-20 victory at Lumen Field, improving to 2-3 and dropping the Seahawks to 3-2.
