The New York Giants made a franchise altering decision on Tuesday when they announced the benching of their long-time quarterback, Eli Manning.
Eli has been the team’s starting quarterback for the last 13 years but after a 2-9 start, both Eli and the organization thought it’d be in the best interest if he’s benched in favor of Geno Smith and eventually Davis Webb.
The decision is an emotional one, not only for the Giants but for Eli Manning, who was seen very emotional when discussing the decision with reporters:

The Giants will have a quarterback not named Eli Manning start for the team for the first time since November of 2004 as it was announced that Geno Smith will be the team’s starting quarterback on Sunday vs Oakland.
