Dez Bryant Starts Fight With J.J. Wilcox During Cowboys Scrimmage

Dez Bryant is inarguably one of the NFL’s best wide receivers. His only downfall? Himself. He found himself in a plethora of off the field issues last season which originate back to his collegate days as a standout NFL talent at Oklahoma State University.

Monday at Dallas Cowboys training camp Bryant found himself in a seemingly ill-advised scuffle with teammate CB J.J. Wilcox.

As to what started the fight, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Texas Star-Telegram noted that Bryant took exception to a hard hit over the middle.

The two were interviews post practice and were asked about their thoughts on the station:

“I got a good little cheap shot in,” Wilcox said. “That’s the spark you need. I am trying to feed off it and get my defense right.”

Bryant’s take?

“J.J. put a nice hit on me,” the receiver said. “He pissed me off, but at the end of the day, I loved it. I told him, ‘Keep it coming.’ Hopefully the rest of the guys on that defense – not only the defense, but the offense and the whole team – feed off of that. That’s what it takes to win. That’s what we need to win. You’ve got to have that passion and that love for the game.”

While it does seem out of line, some coaches and teams actually like to see some nastiness and some fighting from their team against their own teammates. According to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News, once TE Jason Witten got Dez to settle down, the WR caught a touchdown pass and made peace with Wilcox.
