Ray Lewis Says Bank Stole $5 Million From Him, Demanding $20 Million

If there’s anyone you don’t want to steal money from, its probably a 6 foot, 250-pound NFL linebackers with obviously pretty decent lawyers.

Saturday, reports surfaced that NFL great Ray Lewis claims that banks stole millions from him that was used to fund his foundation, the L2 Family Foundation.

Lewis claims his dream of giving 52 homes to 52 families in need was crushed thanks to the bank, and now he’s suing for four times that amount to make settle things straight.

Lewis along with several members of the L2 foundation has filed a lawsuit against American Bank for keeping the $5 million the bank agreed to pay Lewis over 5 years to help fund the program.

In exchange for the $5 mil, L2 says it agreed to give American Bank the right of first refusal on all of the mortgage loans that resulted from the program. Lewis claims the bank got $4.5 mil in business from those deals.

Lewis and his foundation claim the bank “frantically” shut down the branch they were working with just 9 months into the program without explanation.

L2 says it never got the $5 million it was guaranteed, nor any of the benefits that went along with it, also saying the closure “deprived the foundation of its ability to continue operations.”

L2 Family Foundation and Ray Lewis are now suing the bank for a whopping $20 million. Why? Lewis wants repayment for the money as well as payment for the hit to his reputation that he suffered along with it.
