According to Pro Football Talk and many around the league, recently released Texans QB Brian Hoyer seems to be a possible option for the New York Jets, or at the least, being used as leverage in the Ryan Fitzpatrick contract situation.
But now, it appears as if another team has hoped back into the mix, ironically from the same state – none other than the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the team appears to be interested in Hoyer “at the right price.”
The Cowboys do have Tony Romo coming back from injury, but that’s exactly the same reason they need a backup plan, with the injury plagued QB having rarely played a full season. With Brandon Weeden gone, it’s likely the Cowboys may draft a QB later this month with a late round pick, yet that player would likely be a developmental prospect, rather than a player ready to hop into an offense if Romo goes down again.
The only only other quarterbacks on the roster are Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers.
According to sources, the team did consider Chase Daniel and Colt McCoy, but weren’t interested in the rate for the journeymen backup QBs.
Hoyer threw his first pass as a Texan to the other team, and notably tossed 4 interceptions vs the Chiefs in their playoff game before getting yanked.
