REPORT: Redskins Could Trade Kirk Cousins To Either Browns or 49ers

The Redskins have a decision to make this offseason that will determine the path of the franchise for the foreseeable future – to re-sign or not to re-sign.

Coming off an 8-7-1 season, missing the playoffs on the final week, Washington has to decide whether they want to shell out the cash for Kirk Cousins, who’s had decently productive years following his debut after RGIII’s injury years ago, or  trade him.

Cousins suspected landing spots aren’t too favorable.

According to Bleacher Report, the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns are both potential landing spots for Cousins if the Skins let him go.

In the scenario where Cousins goes to the Browns, the team would then have a presumptive franchise quarterback with a relative weak quarterback draft on the horizon.

The the case of the 49ers, the team is poised to hire their next head coach, Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, “don’t be surprised if the 49ers make a run at Kirk Cousins if the Redskins do not make him their exclusive franchise player.” Shanahan was the offensive coordinator in Washington for three seasons (2010-13) and, according to Rapoport, was “integral” in the selection of Cousins in the draft.
