The Pittsburgh Steelers finally had their “three B’s” healthy heading into the post season this year, but all to no avail, once again resulting in disappointment. The Patriots, behind the arm of Tom Brady, dismantled the Steelers defense who’s had embarrassing results in their matches against the QB in the span of the last decade, resulting in zero interceptions against Brady’s 18 touchdown passes.
The longtime Steelers quarterback noted Tuesday that he is considering retirement, as he can’t yet commit to returning to play another NFL season.
“I’m gonna take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options, to consider health and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season — if there’s gonna be a next season,” Roethlisberger said during his weekly radio show with 93.7 The Fan’s Ron Cook and Andrew Fillipponi.
“I’m going to take some time and evaluate with my family and just do a lot of praying about it and make sure it’s the right thing for me and my family.”
Roethlisberger’s career has been defined by the unusual combination of plaguing injuries and success, with the QB seemingly playing through an ailment week in and week out, and winning the majority of the time in doing so.
The Steelers will either have to make coaching changes or tweak their schemes if they want to advance further in next season’s playoffs, as with Martinis Bryant returning from suspension and defensive leader James Harrison returning for another year, the personnel seems to be in place.
Big Ben has three more years left on his contract and $19 million he’ll collect if he comes back for at least next season.
