Though many think the Cavailiers as we know them will evaporate if LeBron James decided to once again leave Cleveland from greener pastures when he becomes a free agent in 2018, that time may come even sooner.
Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, all-star point guard Kyrie Irving met with the Cavs last week, asking to be traded.
The reasoning? Irving reportedly expressed to team owner Dan Gilbert that “he wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James.”
As one would expect, James “was informed of Irving’s request and was blindsided and disappointed.”
The Cavs are currently players to land backup point guard Derrick Rose, who if signed, may suddenly be thrusted into a bigger role than expected.
As for a possible destination for the 25-year-old Irving? ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reported that it could be the San Antonio Spurs with the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Minnesota Timberwolves in the mix as well.
