Bill Belichick is toying with the Jets at this point.
Up 33-0 in the fourth quarter of New England’s game against the Jets, the Patriots found themselves punting just out of field goal range into a short field.
In order to give his punter some more room to work with, Belichick told his special teams unit to run out the play clock and take a ‘Delay of Game’ penalty.
After Adam Gase and the Jets declined the penalty in order to keep the Patriots where they were, Belichick ordered his men to intentionally hop offsides in order to force Gase to decline it once again, all while the clock was still running, benefiting the Pats.
