REPORT: Deion Sanders Would “Almost Certainly” Accept Cowboys Head Coaching Job If Offered

The Dallas Cowboys vacant head coaching job has generated a lot of buzz since Jerry Jones announced that Mike McCarthy would not be returning as the team’s head coach and a lot of that is because of the potential of Deion Sanders taking the job.

According to longtime NFL reporter Ed Werder, Sanders would “almost certainly accept” an offer from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to become the team’s next head coach, citing the connection between Sanders and Jones, in addition to Sanders’ legacy as a player in Dallas.

In addition, Werder also reported that Sanders is “being encouraged by those close to him” to pursue the opportunity.

Sanders himself responded to the idea with intrigue, telling ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry,” but reaffirmed his commitment to his current role as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. His strong ties to Boulder, the team, and the community have made him hesitant to leave despite the allure of returning to Dallas.

There hasn’t been an interview between Sanders and the Cowboys scheduled as Dallas has already begun the interview process with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Fraizer, along with another familiar face for the Cowboys – Kellen Moore – who’s their former offensive coordinator that joined Philadelphia as their play-caller this year.
