The Washington Redskins are the Redskins no more.
The franchise announced Monday morning that they are officially retiring the iconic name due to racially insensitive undertones and mounting pressure from figures, fans and sponsors.
Though nobody is sure the direction the team will go, the names Redtails, Red Wolves, and Monuments have gained traction on social media, and designers have already begun creating concepts for what they think the new team in D.C. should look like.
Washington or D.C. Red Wolves sounds like an awesome name imo pic.twitter.com/eVySXsXBg8

I am fond of the Washington Redtails. I don’t think Washington Monuments is horrible either. pic.twitter.com/7ATPcaGEBM

It’s official. Prayers that the right choices are made from here on out. #Redtails, #RedWolves whatever it becomes … keep the colors … and keep the “R” … atleast for this season. If it where up to me I would atleast keep that.

Almost every concept uniform so far has been terrible (especially those with Redwolves claw marks everywhere–please stop).

This is my concept for the new team in Washington. If we are going to use Redtails, let’s break away from the old Redskin narrative completely and bring in a more authentic and accurate representation of the Tuskegee Airmen. #j12designs #WashingtonRedtails @NFL @Redskins pic.twitter.com/Rh4kAQ4SSa

I’m not even a Washington fan, but I’m excited to see the name change. They have an opportunity to create a WHOLE new look and culture! Redwolves, Redtails, and Warriors, should be their top 3 choices. They’re too tough! 🔥👀 pic.twitter.com/wml1HtO6Nr
