Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon restructured his contract on Friday, which will keep him in Cincinnati for the 2023 season and potentially 2024.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mixon took a $4.39 million pay cut this year which means he’ll make roughly $5.51 million as a base salary in 2023. he can make another $2 million in incentives this season.
Cincinnati clears $4.39 million in cap space, which could help them complete long term extensions for Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins or other key pieces to long-term extensions.
The Bengals also restructured Mixon’s contract for the 2024 campaign according to Rapoport. He took a $4.67 million pay cut, which makes it realistic for the soon to be 27-year-old to stay in Cincinnati for the foreseeable future.
He’s ran for 5,378 yards and 40 touchdowns in six seasons in Cincinnati. The Bengals took him with the 48th overally pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He also has 231 receptions for 1,763 yards and 10 receiving scores.
