REPORT: Vikings Are Being Mentioned As ‘Team To Watch’ In Trade For Trey Lance

Trey Lance time with the San Francisco 49ers is all but over.

The former No. 3 pick is listed as the third string quarterback as the 49ers named Sam Darnold as their backup quarterback behind Brock Purdy.

The 49ers excused Lance from practice on Wednesday and the team is exploring all ‘options.’ One option includes a trade and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Minnesota Vikings are a team to watch:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk added to the report, saying the Vikings and 49ers talked about a potential trade back in April:

For Minnesota, adding Lance makes sense. Kirk Cousins is in the final year of his deal and is set to be a free agent next year. Lance, a native of Minnesota, can come in and sit another season before taking over as the Vikings starter in 2024.

A change of scenery may be what’s best for Lance as it seems like the 49ers have moved on from him and his development.
