Four Teams Are Being Mentioned As Potential Trade Partners For Rams RB Cam Akers

Cam Akers’ time with the Los Angeles Rams is all but over and the only thing in question is where the former Florida State running back will be playing next.

Last Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams deactivated Akers for the team’s Week 2 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. It was an indication that they have a trade lined up but so far, no trade has materialized. But that doesn’t mean teams aren’t calling.

According to Jordan Schultz, ‘several teams’ have checked in with the Rams about a potential trade, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns.

Schultz notes there are more teams calling Los Angeles, as well.

The Browns (Nick Chubb) and Ravens (J.K. Dobbins) both lost their starting running backs for the season with injuries so it makes sense for them to be calling Los Angeles. As for the Buccaneers and Raiders, Akers could provide depth as both teams may be interested in a running back-by-committee approach.

A former second-round pick, Akers helped the Rams win the Super Bowl during his second season after recovering from an Achilles injury that was sustained during the summer. He rushed for a career-high 786 yards and seven touchdowns last year despite asking for a trade during the first half of the season.

Akers had just 29 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries during the Rams’ Week 1 win over the Seahawks.
