San Francisco is so expensive that an NFL quarterback would need to have a roommate in order to afford rent in the city.

Brock Purdy, the 49ers starting quarterback, was a 2022 seventh-round pick and is playing on a four-year, $3,737,008 million contract that pays him a base salary of $870,000 per season. It’s the minimum for an NFL player with a year of service time in 2023.

In an interview on TODAY, Purdy revealed that despite faring well, he still has to have a roommate. Purdy is living with one of his offensive lineman and the two are “splitting rent.” Purdy is also still driving his Toyota Sequoia.

San Francisco has the third-highest cost of living among all U.S. cities behind Manhattan (NY) and Honolulu (HI). Purdy’s living arrangement might be changing soon as he recently got engaged.
