REPORT: Pac-12 Coach Claims Shedeur Sanders Takes Sacks So His Completion Percentage Doesn’t Take A Hit

The Colorado Buffaloes have been the biggest story in college football ever since Deion Sanders took over as the team’s head coach.

Sanders has brought so much more attention to college football and has turned around the Colorado program in one offseason after he used the transfer portal to bring in over 50 transfers, including his son QB Shedeur Sanders.

The Jackson State transfer had many people questioning if he’d be able to make the adjustment from the FCS to the Power 5 level, and to answer those critics Shedeur has only gone on to be second in the country in passing yards behind only Michael Penix Jr., while also being top-10 in completion percentage, and 4th in touchdown passes.

Despite the success, Shedeur still has his doubters. In a recent article by The Athletican anonymous Pac-12 coach suggested after the loss to Oregon that the reason Sanders’ completion percentage is so high is because he takes sacks on purpose.

“They really had some tells,” the Pac-12 assistant said. “I think they want to rack up some stats for Shedeur. He really holds on to the ball a long time. I think he takes sacks because he doesn’t want to affect his completion percentage. He’s playing a little different than he did earlier in the season. Before he showed that he was willing to step up and escape through the B-gaps. Now, he’s retreating more.”

That’s a very strange take to have considering I can’t think of one quarterback (on any level) that loves taking hits on purpose. Nonetheless, it’s not surprising to see Sanders have his doubters.

The Buffaloes will travel to Tempe, Arizona to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
