REPORT: Bill Belichick Unlikely To Be Fired After ‘Quietly’ Signing A Lucrative Contract Extension

The New England Patriots are in the midst of one of their worst seasons in the Bill Belichick-era and there are many rumblings that the Robert Kraft could fire the six-time Super Bowl Champion head coach.

But NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport’s latest report might quiet those rumblings. According to Rapoport, Belichick agreed to a “lucrative” multi-year contract extension with the New England Patriots.

“Sources say Bill Belichick, during the offseason, quietly agreed to terms on a lucrative multi-year new contract…it’s fair to say there was at least some uncertainty or intrigue surrounding him. Now, contractually, he is locked up long term.”

While Rapoport did not disclose the specifics of the financial commitment from the Patriots to Belichick, one can assume that it would be expensive for team owner Robert Kraft to part ways with his longtime head coach, who with Tom Brady helped the franchise capture six Super Bowl titles in his two decades at the helm.
