The biggest story in college football right now is centered around the investigation into the Michigan Wolverines football program and their alleged sign-stealing plot.
When asked about the scandal, USC head coach Lincoln Riley seemingly accused another marquee program of participating in similar activities. According to Luca Evans of the O.C. Register, Riley stated that the Utah “does a good job of trying to grab signals.” Regarding the Michigan sign-stealing scandal, Riley simply added, “That kind of stuff has been going on forever.”
It’s important to note that Riley is 0-3 against Utah following this past weekend’s 34-32 loss to the Utes. Riley and his staff have been under fire as of late, as the Trojans have fallen all the way to No. 24 in the rankings, and have little to no chance at making the College Football Playoff.
USC has a chance to bounce back against a struggling Cal team, while No. 13 Utah is hosting No. 8 Oregon in what is a game that will decide the fate of the losing team’s season. A loss for either team will essentially knock them out of Pac-12 title contention, and dash any hopes that they had of making the College Football Playoff due to the fact it’d be their second on the year.
As for the Michigan Wolverines, earlier this season, they imposed a three-game ban on head coach Jim Harbaugh earlier this season for violating NCAA recruiting rules. If the investigation concludes that the Wolverines indeed engaged in their own “Spygate” scandal, there’s no telling just how ugly this could get for Harbaugh and the historic football program.
