Police have opened an investigating into Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott after he filed a lawsuit against a woman and her attorneys over an alleged extortion, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram’s James Hartley.
The Prosper Police Dept. told Hartley the investigating started after Prescott’s attorney approached them to report that he was the victim of theft by coercion.
Prescott had filed the lawsuit in Collin County, Texas on Monday against the woman and her attorneys, alleging that they are trying to extort $100 million from him to settle a 2017 sexual assault allegation.
Gehlken added that Dallas police confirmed to him on Tuesday that Prescott was also being investigated by police for the alleged sexual assault incident.
The alleged incident in question occurred in the parking lot of the XTC Cabaret strip club in Dallas back in February of 2017, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The woman’s attorney sent a letter to Prescott claiming $100 million in damages and said she would be “willing to forgo pursuing criminal charges, along with disclosing the information to the public, in exchange for compensation for her mental anguish she has suffered.”
Prescott’s attorney, Levi McCathern, called the allegations an “extortion plot,” and the quarterback denied any wrongdoing in a text message to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Monday.
Prescott’s lawyer, Levi McCathern, released a statement:
“Mr. Prescott—a new father to a baby girl—has great empathy for survivors of sexual assault. He fervently believes that all perpetrators of such crimes should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. To be clear, Mr. Prescott has never engaged in any nonconsensual, sexual conduct with anyone. Lies hurt. Especially, malicious lies. We will not allow the Defendant and her legal team to profit from this attempt to extort millions from Mr. Prescott.”
The 30-year-old quarterback was never in a relationship with the woman, but the two reportedly “knew each other both before and after the alleged assault,” according to Prescott lawyer.
The woman’s attorney said Tuesday that she intends to pursue criminal charges against Prescott, according to Hartley.
