NFL Announces Jets-49ers Week 1 Monday Night Football Game

The National Football League is kicking off the 2024 Monday Night Football schedule in similar fashion to the way it did in 2023.

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets will travel to San Francisco to take on the reigning NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium on September 9th.

The matchup will be Aaron Rodgers’ return to the field after tearing his achilles a year ago in Week 1 on Monday Night against the Buffalo Bills.

Even though the Jets were able to pull out a 22-16 overtime win in that game, the celebration was short-lived because they were back in quarterback hell after an offseason of incredible hype.

On the other side of the field, the 49ers will look to pull themselves back up this season after a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. They have advanced to the NFC Championship Game four times in the past five years but are still trying to win the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy since the 1994 season.

Barring an unexpected trade of either Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers will bring back all 11 offensive starters from last season. Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting in his first full season as their starting quarterback. Christian McCaffrey led the league in rushing yards (1,459), yards from scrimmage (2,023) and tied for the league lead in total touchdowns (21).

Rodgers has won four of his last five regular-season starts and owns a 6-3 overall record against the 49ers in his career.
