Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams left Sunday’s training camp practice on a cart after suffering a leg injury, according to multiple beat reporters in attendance.
After undergoing further testing, an MRI confirmed Williams tore his ACL, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He will miss the entire 2024 season.
Williams, 25, tallied 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 16 quarterbacks during his first two years in the NFL.
He was lined up for a bigger role this offseason after Durance Armstrong and Dante Fowler departed in free agency. The Cowboys have one of the better pass rushing duos in the NFL in Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence but their depth was already wearing thin. With Williams now gone for the year, it’s a huge problem for Dallas.
The Cowboys are left now with a lot of inexperience behind their duo with Chauncey Golston, Tyrus Wheat and Durrell Johnson. That trio has combined for a career total of 3.5 sacks, all from Golston.
