Chargers Convert The First Successful Free Kick Since 1976 After Cameron Dicker Nails 57-Yard Kick

History was made at the end of the first of Thursday night’s Broncos-Chargers game at SoFi Stadium.

After the Broncos were called for a penalty on the final play of the first half, the Los Angeles had the opportunity to get three points by attempting a free kick from 57-yards out and he nailed it.

Dicker’s 57-yard fair catch kick was the last successful fair catch kick since 1976, which was also done by the Chargers. Nine has been tried since then, most recently in 2019. It’s also the longest fair catch kick in NFL history. The prior record was 52 yards, by Paul Hornung for the Packers in 1964.

The Chargers still trail the Broncos, 21-13.
