REPORT: ‘Multiple Teams’ Interested In Trading For Kevin O’Connell Amid Vikings Contract Talks

Kevin O’Connell has emerged as one of the best coaches in the National Football League and teams around the league are taking note and trying to do their part to see if they can pry him away from Minnesota.

According to FOX Sports Jay Glazer, Multiple NFL teams have interest in trading for O’Connell.

“There are multiple teams that actually are considering trying to trade for Kevin O’Connell,” Glazer began.

“And the reason why, next year, the last year of his deal, they’ve had no contract talks yet at all. Look if you’re a team out there, saying why not take a shot, see if we can do it. Maybe the Vikings don’t let it happen, but also Kevin O’Connell kind of holds all the cards thinking, ‘Hey maybe I’m not going to re-sign there, so you might as well get something for me.'”

This isn’t something that’s unprecedented in the NFL. Back in 2002, Jon Gruden was traded from then-Oakland Raiders to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, $8 million. Bruce Arians was also traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 for a sixth-round pick (the Bucs also got a seventh-rounder).

Even Bill Belichick was traded from the New York Jets to the New England Patriots in 2000 for a first-round pick, fourth-round pick, and seventh-round pick (Pats also got a fifth-rounder and seventh-rounder).

For now, Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings are gearing up for a big Sunday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions for the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
