REPORT: Bears Head Coaching Search Is A “Two-Horse Race” Between Mike McCarthy And Ben Johnson

The Chicago Bears head coaching search could be coming to an end soon.

Since firing head coach Matt Eberflus during the 2024 regular season, the Chicago Bears have been casting a wide-net search for a head coach, bringing in candidates from the pros and college ranks.

But according to FOX NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the search appears to be a two-horse race between former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

“For all intents and purposes… it’s a two-horse race between Mike McCarthy and Ben Johnson. Now if Brian Flores goes in and wows them, then he is still in that mix. But right now McCarthy and Johnson are the two leading candidates for Chicago…” Schultz said.

Both McCarthy and Johnson would fall in line with what starting quarterback Caleb Williams said he wants in a new head coach, which is being an offensive mind.
