Chicago Bears head coach Dennis Allen is adding a notable name to his coaching staff.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Chicago is hiring former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen as its next defensive coordinator. Rapoport called Allen a “respected guru” and pointed to his experience that will help the first-year head coach.
Allen was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints the last two seasons (2022-2024). Prior to that he was the defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2021. His first head coaching job came in 2012 with the Raiders.
In addition to time as a defensive assistant for the Atlanta Falcons and Saints early in his career, he was also the defensive coordinator for Denver Broncos in 2011 as they advanced to the AFC Divisional Round.
While the majority of the focus is on Caleb Williams and the offense in Chicago after the hire of Ben Johnson, it’s important that defense improves too after finishing 27th in the league in yards allowed in 2024.
The Bears are hoping Dennis Allen can help the defense.
