In a move that has sent shockwaves through the NFL, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has officially signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, concluding months of speculation about his future.
Rodgers, 41, a four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl XLV champion, was released by the New York Jets in February after a challenging two-year stint. His tenure with the Jets was marred by a torn Achilles tendon in his debut game in 2023, sidelining him for the entire season. He returned in 2024 but led the team to a disappointing 5–12 record, missing the playoffs.
The Steelers, seeking stability at the quarterback position after parting ways with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, have brought in Rodgers to provide veteran leadership. He joins a quarterback room that includes Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard.
Rodgers is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh on Friday and participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp starting June 10 . The Steelers are hopeful that his experience and football IQ can help end their postseason win drought, which dates back to 2017.
Notably, Rodgers will face his former team, the New York Jets, in Week 1 of the 2025 season, setting the stage for a highly anticipated matchup.
