Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez faces misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after an early morning altercation in downtown Indianapolis. Police were called to Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery, where they found Sanchez with multiple stab wounds. Nearby, a 69-year-old worker collecting used cooking oil was also found injured.
Surveillance footage showed Sanchez jogging into an alley and approaching the worker’s box truck. After a brief conversation, Sanchez allegedly opened the truck’s door and climbed inside despite being told to leave. The worker, who said Sanchez appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, tried to call his supervisor, but Sanchez reportedly blocked him. The situation escalated into a fight, during which the worker used pepper spray and then, fearing for his life, stabbed Sanchez several times in self-defense. Investigators confirmed the video matched the worker’s account.
A witness saw the two men recording each other on their phones before the fight began. Police recovered a knife from the truck and obtained search warrants for Sanchez’s clothing and phone. The worker’s family shared photos showing severe cuts to his face and tongue from the struggle.
At the hospital, Sanchez told detectives he remembered only “grabbing for a window” and didn’t recall the rest of the incident. Prosecutor Ryan Mears condemned the violence, saying the case would follow “the facts and the law wherever they lead.”

Sanchez, 38, known for his career with the New York Jets and as a FOX Sports broadcaster, was slated to call the Colts-Raiders game before being replaced by Brady Quinn. Court records show he posted a $300 cash bond and was processed by deputies at the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
