The Cincinnati Bengals may have just saved their season thanks to Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry.
Prior to Week 6, the Cleveland Browns made a rare in-division trade by sending Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, who were desperate for quarterback help after Jake Browning stunk up the joint following Joe Burrow’s injury.
Flacco didn’t do much in the first week in Cincinnati but against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football, Flacco led the Bengals to a 33-31 win, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns.
The morning after that game, Tony Rizzo on ESPN Cleveland radio went berserk on Browns general manager Andrew Berry and owner Jimmy Haslam, criticizing both for their roles in the Browns becoming a “joke” thanks in part to the Joe Flacco trade.
“How could you do that, Andrew. How could you do it!” Rizzo said. “Why on earth did you feel the need to trade this guy to a division opponent for a fifth-round draft pick? Fireable offense! That is a fireable offense!”
The Browns traded Flacco in large part to play rookie Dillion Gabriel (and eventually Shedeur Sanders). But nonetheless, it’s yet another Browns quarterback to leave Cleveland and immediately find success elsewhere.
