In an alternate universe, Deebo Samuel and DK Metcalf are the best wide receiver duo in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, during the 2019 NFL Draft, the Seahawks hoped to draft both Samuel and DK Metcalf in the second round and believed they had a plan in place to do it.
Per Schefter, the Seahawks had a trade worked out with the Raiders to move up to No. 35, with Samuel as the target. But before the trade was finalized, the Raiders decided to send the 35th pick to the Jaguars, who selected offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor. One pick later, the San Francisco 49ers took Deebo Samuel.
Seattle did wind up getting Metcalf when they traded up to the last pick in the round, No. 64 overall. Seattle traded third- and fourth-round picks to the New England Patriots for that selection.
Both receivers have found plenty of success with their respective teams. Samuel has earned First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors with the 49ers, while Metcalf is a Second Team All-Pro selection and two-time Pro Bowl receiver during his time in Seattle.
Samuel and Metcalf will see each other Sunday when the Seahawks face the 49ers in Week 11 at Levi’s Stadium, with kickoff set for 4:05 p.m. ET.
