It’s clear Commanders’ fans still have a strong appetite for the team’s old Redskins’ name and logo.
Erick Flack of WUSA first reported that the Washington Commanders were selling gear wearing the controversial name and logo earlier this week and after a few days, all the merchandise at the team’s online store have sold out.
The Commanders defended the decision to sell gear with the old name and logo but pointing to accuracy in honoring the franchise greats. The team also mentioned the necessity of keeping its trademark rights viable.
The decision to use the name and logo is the first really strong embracement by the organization since the team name was dropped in 2020. Whether or not the Commanders continue to push it further will be determined but one thing is for clear, the fans don’t have a problem with the old logo or team.
