The Most Pathetic ‘Roughing The Passer’ Penalty In NFL History was Just Called

It’s apparent the NFL has changed the way games are officiated in hopes on limiting the amount of injuries. To most NFL fans; agreement, they’ve gone a tad too far – socially with protecting the quarterbacks.

Nowadays, a defender can’t do as much as accidentally brush a QB in the head region when the point of that player’s job is to tackle the man.

The most recent and could be the most horrendous ‘roughing the passer’ call in NFL history was called during the Redskins vs Bills Preseason Week 3 game Friday night.

The Bills defensive end was flagged for illegally going “too low” on the quarterback, to which he couldn’t possibly avoid after struggling to stay on his feet during the rush. Ed Hochuli made the call:

Nothing like a tackle at the hips costing you 15 yards. Pathetic.

  1. Looks like the Hoc is getting warmed up for his camera appearances during the regular season lol. The video sucks and is split up and with no audio tho. Were there any rule changes this year as far as hits on the overprotected QB’s?

    • No. The LB was flagged for the old rule of intentionally hitting a QB below the knee (or above the neck) despite tackling from the hips

    • The issue at had was that it was an entire GAME of bad calls. It was some of the worst officiating I have ever seen and Hochuli is supposed to be one of the good ones. It wasnt just one bad call. It was not flagging the Redskins for body slamming a HB to the ground WWE style after the whistle. Its not calling players for targeting defenseless WRs. Its handing out a 10 yard penalty for pushing off with the game on the line despite no actual pushing. This was SAD

      • A penalty was called with the game on the line? The preseason championship has been ripped from your hands. The league should be ashamed.

  2. Total disregard for the fact he was coming off an engagement with another player…the call was made as if it was intentional.

    • Intent has absolutely no bearing. What IS crazy is that a totally clean, good tackle is now a rule violation. It ain’t football anymore. It’s little girls bitching and moaning that the game is too rough while being paid millions to play a freaking GAME and millions more for “endorsements”. American football came from rugby. Ever see a rugby game? THAT’S a rough game! American football has become soccer on mild steroids. No longer worth watching.

  3. This has to be a new rule. I did this very thing just now in madden 17 and they called roughing the passer on me. This is like the 4th time
