Phillip Rivers Buy Custom $200k SUV With Film Room So He Can Watch Tape During Commute

Watching film has never been glamorous – until now.

Philip Rivers and his family decided not to make the move up to coast to Los Angeles with the Chargers when the team relocated this season, meaning the quarterback will have to make a three-hour commute each day. To make the best of the time, Rivers decided to splurge on a new ride, but not just any new ride – a film room on wheels.

Rivers purchased an SUV to which he had gutted, and transformed to include reclining seats that will make your living room seem uncomfortable, a 40-inch television screen, WiFi, and a refrigerator, of course. All culminating to the perfect place to watch the playoffs in come January.

The project cost Rivers about $200k, which does not include the driver’s salary he’ll pay to be driven each day.

“My two biggest things were my family time and my preparation and what I owe this football team,” the quarterback said. “I was not going to sacrifice either of them in any big proportion. I can look at all the pluses and minuses and say, ‘OK. This does it.’ This allows me to get home in the 6 to 7 hour, which is when I got home the last 11 years, and it allows me to watch all or more of the film I watched before.”

“[Looking for a new house in a new area] was literally making me go, ‘This is crazy,'” Rivers said. “I know at some point, (players) have to move. I know it’s life for a lot of people. People have to move all the time. … We’re just so thankful for what we have. That’s why we didn’t want it to change.”
