The New Orleans Saints made somewhat of a surprising decision this week by announcing that Taysom Hill will be staring at quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons after Drew Brees was knocked out of action due to multiple broken ribs.
There are reportedly multiple “players and people” within the Saints organization that disagree with Sean Payton’s decision and feel that Jameis Winston should be starting in place of the injured Brees, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports:
Opting to start Hill on Sunday does not mean that Winston won’t be taking over for Brees as the Saints’ quarterback of the future. Winston has impressed Saints coaches and players and remains apart of the Saints’ long term-plans, as Schefter notes.
As for the Saints current starter, Brees, there is no concrete timetable for how long he will be sidelined for while recovering from the rib injury and collapsed lung. Brees was placed on injured reserve Friday and will miss at least the next three games.
