The Houston Texans may be in full rebuild mode, but they are certainly happy to be out of the Deshaun Watson market as new controversies have popped up since his departure.
Earlier this offseason, the Houston Texans traded star quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns and they would soon sign him to a fully guaranteed $230 million contract.
Since his departure, Watson has racked up even more sexual assault or misconduct lawsuits. It has led to many thinking that the trade could be voided.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio doesn’t seem too concerned.
“Any trade — forget about this particular one — any trade that takes place, so there’s a process that you have to go through,” Caserio said. “Teams agree on that and then once you agree on that, it gets submitted to the league. The transaction gets processed and it goes on file with the league. Unless there’s somebody that’s gonna go in there, you know, overnight in a mask and try to get on a computer, and may have a cyberattack like that, I’m not sure anything that can be done there.”
Watson is facing 24 active civil lawsuits from women who have accused him of inappropriate sexual conduct during massage sessions. Although two grand juries in Texas declined to pursue criminal charges against Watson earlier this year, the NFL is investigating whether he violated their code of conduct.
Watson has maintained his innocence, reiterating Tuesday that he never “harassed” or “disrespected” or “forced” any woman.
