Falcons’ Jake Matthews Travels Back To Atlanta For Birth Of His Son, Still Makes It Back To Charlotte In Time For Panthers Game

This has been one of the craziest days in Jake Matthews life and he still has to play in a football game.

Matthews had to fly back to Atlanta from Charlotte because his wife, Meggi, went into labor. Maggi delivered a baby boy this afternoon in Atlanta, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe confirmed.

Matthews then hopped back on a plane and traveled back to Charlotte in time to be active for tonight’s Thursday Night Football game against the Carolina Panthers:

I’m told Meggi Matthews delivered a healthy baby boy, Beckett, this afternoon in Atlanta. Falcons LT Jake Matthews is en route back to Charlotte for tonight’s game with owner Arthur Blank.

He’s only missed one game in his entire NFL career, which came during his rookie season back in 2014. Not even the birth of his son will require him to miss a chance to play with the Falcons during primetime.
