Baker Mayfield’s time in Carolina is over.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Panthers are waiving the former No. 1 overall pick, who will hit waivers:
The Panthers acquired Mayfield this past offseason in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and even named him their Week 1 starter but Mayfield was a big disappointment, losing his job to P.J. Walker. With Sam Darnold healthy, Mayfield fell to third string and it made little to no sense for the Panthers to keep him around.
The question now becomes.. will Mayfield find his way to San Francisco with the 49ers losing Jimmy G to a season-ending injury?
