The Denver Broncos have become the first team to request and receive permission from the New Orleans Saints to interview Sean Payton, according to Adam Schefter.

The in-person interview with Payton cannot be conducted until at least January 17th.

Payton, who retired from the Saints a year ago, has made it clear he’s ready to return to the sidelines after a one-year hiatus. Meanwhile, the Saints still own the rights to Payton and would like to be compensated by any team trying to hire Payton.
