REPORT: Russell Wilson Is “Expecting” To Be Cut By Denver Broncos In March

Broncos Country, the ride is over.

According to Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Russell Wilson is ‘expecting’ to be cut by the Denver Broncos in March. Russini added that Wilson has been “knowing the organization was most likely going to move off from him after the season.”

The Broncos reportedly reached out Wilson’s representatives in late October explaining that if Wilson didn’t defer the injury guarantee trigger date that he has for 2025, Wilson would lose his starting job and be made inactive for the rest of the season.

Wilson has $37 million in injury guarantees for 2025 that will be come guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2024 league year in March. The issue reportedly got so severe that Wilson’s lawyers and the NFLPA were involved to make sure no changes were made to the contract.

The Broncos informed Wilson of his benching this morning, per Russini.

The Broncos traded quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris, two first round picks (2022, 2023), two second-round picks (2022, 2023) and a 2022 fifth-round selection to the Seahawks for Wilson. They proceed to give Wilson a five-year, $245 million extension upon his arrival in Denver.

That contract has not worked out, to say the least and now Wilson’s time in Denver is ending.
