Jets Owner Woody Johnson Takes Shot At Zach Wilson: “We Need A Backup QB. We Didn’t Have One Last Year”

The New York Jets entered 2023 with big expectations after acquiring Aaron Rodgers. But four plays into the year, Rodgers season ended after he tore his achilles.

The Jets season, seemingly, ended that day too as the team faltered with Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle backing up Rodgers.

The debacle has caught the attention of Jets owner and CEO Woody Johnson, who is prioritizing the backup quarterback job behind Aaron Rodgers.

“We need a backup quarterback,” Johnson said, via the New York Post. “We didn’t have one last year.”

That’s quite the dig at Zach Wilson.

Since being drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, QB Zach Wilson has been a major disappointment for the franchise. All indications are his time with Gang Green is over. After all, not even the owner thinks he can be a backup quarterback.
